Gary Christensen, professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his contributions to medical image registration and analysis.

Christensen also is professor of UI radiation oncology and computational imaging group leader in the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging. His present research interests are in global shape models and medical imaging.

The IEEE Fellow is one of the most prestigious honors of the IEEE, and is bestowed upon a very limited number of senior members who have contributed importantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology bringing significant value to the society. The number of IEEE Fellows elevated in a year is no more than one-tenth of one percent of the total IEEE voting membership.

IEEE and its members comprise a global community to innovate through its more than 423,000 members in over 160 countries, and its highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.
